We are very excited to present this project we have created to improve the health of the children at a school.
The school is Habari Njema, located in southern Kenya, specifically in Ukunda. It has 134 students, of whom 84 live on-site full-time, either because they are orphans or due to difficult family circumstances.
Habari Njema is in a critical situation: income is scarce, as many families cannot afford school fees, and expenses are very high, especially for food.
The children eat only once or twice a day, which seriously affects their development and well-being. That is why we have decided to launch this project together with Cooperating Volunteers: to create a garden where they can grow their own vegetables.
They have a 2-acre plot (about 8,000 m²), currently unused, right next to the school. We plan to focus on 2,000 m², which will be enough to supply all the students.
🎯 Our goal is for the school to become self-sufficient within 6 months:

So that the children can eat what they grow, reducing costs.

So that they receive hands-on training in agriculture, an area in which many hope to work in the near future.
To prepare the budget, we have been working with Checheni Limited, a leading agribusiness company in Kenya. We have collaborated with them to select the most suitable tools and solutions, ensuring the project develops optimally and becomes a fully functional and sustainable garden.
In the images you can see the breakdown of the budget in the local currency. To the total amount, we have added a small margin to cover the difference in the exchange rate applied by the bank, as well as an additional 12.5% allocated partly to Cooperating NGO for the maintenance of the project and partly to cover the management and transfer fees of the platform.
📸 Throughout the process, the local coordinators from Cooperating Volunteers will send weekly photos and videos showing the progress.

También estuve en el colegio Habari Njema de voluntaria con cooperating volunteers, y también hicimos un reto de recogida de fondos para comprarles material escolar. Son niños muy especiales. No puedo donar mucho más pero se que cualquier ayuda es válida y estoy segura de que lo conseguiréis. Muchísima suerte chicas!
