In the Casamance region, families support their daughters to go to school. This is extremely fortunate for them because, as we know, this situation is not the same in many other parts of the world. However, just because they are girls, they have a problem that forces them to be absent from school at least 3 days a month, 30 days a year. Missing 30 days of school in a year can make the difference between getting your diploma and not getting it, being able to keep up or not being able to, in short, getting your financial independence through a stable job or not getting it. The problem is that most female students do not have the financial means to buy pads for their menstrual cycle. In addition, they are often forced to use unsuitable materials (from cardboard to pieces of cloth) to replace the pads. Our project aims to change the lives of 500 girls through a gesture as simple as donating a kit of reusable sanitary pads, consisting of 2 cotton pads and 5 refills. The sanitary pads will be sewn in the village of Oussouye by a group of seamstresses who have already been trained to do so. All materials are procured locally, to reduce the ecological footprint of the sanitary napkins as much as possible.

Let's take a look at the countless advantages of this project:

Reduction of school absenteeism
Reduction of environmental waste
Improved menstrual hygiene for girls
Reduction in the use of unsuitable materials such as cardboard or cloth
Reduction of diseases related to the lack of intimate hygiene.
Decent and well-paid work for the tailors who will make the sanitary napkins (residents of Oussouye).
Use of local and ecological materials
Stimulation of the local market through the local purchase of all the materials needed for the production of sanitary napkins
Raising awareness of menstrual hygiene and reproductive health issues
Reconciliation for the tailors who will work on the project (women will be able to come to work with their babies).
Sensitization of local authorities to include in their budgets the cost of the production of sanitary napkins for future years
Expansion of the proposal to other communities and regions.
