My name is Antonio, and in October 2025, I will face one of the greatest physical and mental challenges of my life: swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar, from Europe to Africa, in open water.
I'm doing it for a cause: to support research into Dravet Syndrome, a rare and serious neurological disorder that affects one in every 16,000 births and has no cure. The age of onset of the disease is between 4 and 12 months of age, and the mortality rate is around 15% due to SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy).
Every stroke I take will be for them, for their families, and for the tireless work of researchers and doctors who fight every day for hope.
Solidarity Training – June 1st
As part of my preparations, next June I will be holding a 25km solidarity training swiming in the pool, open to the participation and collaboration of anyone who wants to swim for the cause. It will be a day of shared effort, visibility, and fundraising, where every meter will count.
I will soon share more details so you can join, collaborate, or simply cheer.
Why the Strait of Gibraltar?
The Strait symbolizes the border between two continents, but also the boundary between disease and hope. The currents, the cold, the winds, and maritime traffic make it one of the most challenging crossings in the world. But if children with Dravet, and their families, struggle every day, so can I.
How can you help?
For the next six months, I will be training intensively and taking on preparation challenges to build endurance, stamina, and visibility. Each event will be an opportunity to rally support, raise awareness of the cause, and remember that this goes far beyond a personal challenge.
All proceeds will go to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation.

La Fundación Síndrome de Dravet es una entidad sin ánimo de lucro que nace con el objetivo de promover y garantizar el desarrollo de la investigación de las epilepsias genéticas, con el fin de avanzar en el conocimiento de sus causas, mejorar su diagnóstico y hallar tratamientos efectivos que permitan mitigar los efectos de la enfermedad.
